So if you could just sort of walk me through the travel booking options that are out there and sort of how American Express consumer travel network fits into that landscape right now. Sure so there's. Many different options for people to book travel and it's interesting it's changed a lot in the last several years.

Than in the past consumers were sort of viewed as either online or offline you know in terms of their consumption of booking travel and now consumers are pretty much booking travel across the board we really play in any area that a consumer would want to book travel we have an online website it's actually right now the fastest growing online travel agency we have a call center for a platinum and centurion card members which has over 2 people in it and we have a walk in channel we have I a representative network that its franchisees which has over 3 people that network is well over 4 people sorry that network as well and just from a branding point of view I mean what do you want consumers to think of when they think American Express consumer travel network the city all the other competitors that are out there we really we want to be the best travel agency that's out there because we can really personalize it in a way that's unique to our brand you know were a brand that's really well known for our service we've always been had that service heritage for you know 50 years and so being able to manage the whole experience I said and and but with the level of service.

The other thing is as we're building our online capabilities we have a unique capability to use insights about the types of customers that we know tend to like the American Express brand so our consumers are really what we call creative achievers and they'd love to live life and experience that in a in a you know sort of full of life way and as we get a lot of insights about other people and other consumers you know making those experience in reaching your travel experience with insights from other people like you and really that that cut a one of a kind. Marketing and servicing that American Express overall is known for is what you're.

Delivering it through the trial absolute services so we have we wanna make it so that if you're a cardholder for example are online we have the same prices as the online travel agencies in fact we have a life white label agreement with 1 of the online travel agencies so exact same price but if your car member you also can pay with points with your membership rewards you get double membership rewards you get 247 service and you get access to our fine hotels resorts we want to take a basic experience and make it you know amex experience which is better and more and really the benefits of of being in our franchise. And what would you say you know from from a challenge point of view how would you define the travel network's biggest brand challenge right now.

For our friend I mean I think it's really the travel industry challenge right now that exists is how do we make this more simple for consumer so the growth of online has been great in terms of you know the consistency of information in the veil the availability of information it's also made it very hard for people in some cases they feel compelled to try to do all this research and it's become a job now for them and you know. I think the option for the travel industry is how do we simplify that whole experience and make it simple and make travel sonic and which is what it should be so you know allow you to do research where you want to do research but when you want to pick up the phone and have someone help you who really is an expert who maybe has been to India 20 times and has an insight that you don't have or talk to other cardmembers how do you make that experience really you know back to its roots of it's fun to think about and plan to travel a trip that's I think our industry challenge and I think we're really poised to take advantage of that you touched on some of the consumer insights like the one about value no price versus value for example that are driving our efforts can you also just sort of share with us some additional insights that are guiding your marketing and branding and and go to market strategy especially now is we're headed into the summer travel season or were in mid mid summer travel season really why do you know the same were you paying attention to and how are you sort of approaching them.

As a result 2 trends that I think are really interesting one is that you're seeing a lot more multi generational trips. So in the past we did we do his annual survey every year of 2 adults and ask about their travel for the summer in the past I think it was 45 percent of them said they would bring extended family this year was 71 percent.

Big increase you know part of that is I don't there's a lot more family love than there used to be I don't know but it's probably a function of spending the money again and feeling like that's a good use of our family funds to be able to you know have. Spend that time with each other so that's a big increase and the second piece that so a pretty emerging trend is with young professionals it's much more active type vacations so in the survey in the past you we asked how many what types of occasions are gonna take 13 percent of them were looking for active type vacations this year that number was 40 plus something percent so bigger increases in those 2 things not surprising as were coming out of the recession that you know it's probably inherent that that's what people have wanted to do but they're sort of coming back with a vengeance the multichannel rational one.

I think the cruise lines have always done really well with that they're very savvy about you know the. For generations in some cases grandma can go do this during the day mom can do this and the kids can do this but they can all come back together again at the end of the day so you got your own little unique vacation time but you're really there together as a family the resorts are also getting a lot more savvy about that as well so you're saying that market to multiple families.

Hey guys welcome to the mom's neo alright it is been crazy around these parts for awhile I don't know if you guys watch she dies blogs but if you do you know that we've been traveling and going going going and we are getting ready we just got back. This morning from our last trip and were getting ready to go to New York and then Orlando with the whole family this time so.

Playlist lives maybe we'll see some of you there we are crazy busy getting ready to go and I often get the question how do I pack for 5 kids and me and say how do I possibly do that for all the troops that we go on how do I pack so I'm just going to go through a little bit of what I do to prepare the she turns family for traveling are you ready let's get. Okay guys first of all I usually start packing like 2 weeks in advance. Okay. I know I prepare in my mind 2 weeks in advance so I start setting aside outfits that I know the boys are gonna get lost or they're going to get dirty as are kinda setting aside things some kids I'm able to do that but I usually try to do that if I know that a big trip is coming up I start planning ahead buying things setting aside outfits that I know I love on them and so that it's not quite as hard when the day comes the need to pass.

Also trying to get laundry done days in advance is always helpful that doesn't always work but I try to do that so little things they do to prepare beforehand but when the day comes I always make a big list for the kids and I let the 3 older kids pack for themselves. And I know some on their little micro managing their like keenness impact himself put screwed but that's only learned so I looked impact themselves but I always like to go through before we actually go on the trip to see what they pack to make sure they got everything that I want to. In the back alright how did you ladies do today bailout but see. My goodness you're on your back even color coordinating and he's got blue if you give god king hopes you she's got her purse you know I usually know I don't really have to double check on her because she's got super awesome.

Awesome fashion sense you know Emmys she does a really good job to the sometimes we miss some socks in there but you go your socks. But yeah like wait did I guess socks aside once again good if you didn't now the time to go check. Jammies. New swimming suit yeah I'm ready for you come check my. If you get out of here but I think. Okay that's good it doesn't have that chance okay we ought to many but we do want some options. I think it's always helpful to pack not just throwing a bunch of shirts and pants in there but you gotta pack outfits. So you know exactly what you're gonna wherein each day so that you can color coordinate and you make sure you have enough things so pack your outfits 3 pairs of shoes a good sturdy pair. Address the pair and like flip flops. Because we're going to York and Florida so it might be cold and it's gonna be ha ha sometime soon tile I have to show you guys this this is piled store this is the tile store that the kids made for their selling tile and it's a really super. Everybody wants and how I would like to buy some time. I think I got this year to date $32 a really good you can just come on yeah I bet CNNfn you're giving going into acting. I say your company single 12 placement not knowing you guys and I use it I actually literally use different super awesome okay so this is dachshund Brock's bag I usually pack all their stuff in one bag all dachshunds sevens on this side abrupt step is on the side knows gotta remember with the babies need to have diapers swim diapers because we're going to Florida and there's where I was staying in hotels. And his water wings so he don't crap. Okay unknot forget.

The need to hold him in the water the whole time he. So guards water weekend usually kicks away for music. Leann. Not. Yeah I think he loves the water. So make sure if you're going to tell the I always pack swimsuit because that is. Also I should mention on my kids'list I always pack makes you have to add 3 outfits that you can accessorize with tricks and where yet so I'll get another number lose weight isn't people but. Yeah I'm sure that'll go with you action yeah. But as. Leann right away chosen aware of my answer first. Nnamdi believe me. Because the parables. Yeah go ahead super organized this is the best packing job I've done the last. 6 trips and guess what I've been on 6 trips in the last 6 weeks it zeroed out.

All these guys are coming with me this time yeah. Hey I reject the dryer okay and I should mention that yes my house is a pigsty and that's sometimes how I leave it to go on a lot of trips and they're all back to back so I do not stress out about it that is one thing that I've decided is I do not derive my self worth and my value from the cleanliness of my house. I know that bothers some of you but you know what that's the way we do around here okay let's go to my neck okayed for my own bad I always like to have a toiletry bag that is just my travel bag because I usually don't have to take stuff out of it after a trip I just have to kind of replenishing pants so I would have a bag that is just mine. For toiletries and I keep. Pack. That's not totally packed I have to replenish but then I have this awesome. I have this curling iron and I have this awesome heat resistant cover that goes on it so that when you have you done curling your hair you can just throw it in there and put it in your bag without burning yourself or Bernie suffer lighting fires.

My mom got that for me years ago so I love that and then I love this I have to show you guys this whole why haven't we haven't used it yet but the fun thing about going to play list live in New York is we're gonna do something fancy so I have a couple outfits that are fancy and this is one of my handbags for. My clutch. I guess you would say well. Mu you define who he loves what vannatter on the airplanes. I'm not gonna try and perhaps soon OneNote. Dachshund you wanna tell them we're not gonna be on the airplane tomorrow until these guys right here ketone leann. Hope Whatta. Don't good I'll be sure to. It's not gonna scream on the airplane get good thing I'm not gonna scream on their plainness. Or fight over 2 ways. We're finally I yeah leann horse well make them. I mean her in that. Children before handing. Make the world obey and last but not least I always like to happy back. I used to carry an over the shoulder bag because I felt like they were cuter so leann and hearing all the things that we need to carry a backpack saves money Prabhakaran back.

Yeah like my backpack. I. Using a mac. Mmhm. Okay this is my backpack that I have chosen for this trip I love the green color and and look this cute little monkey that it has on it is like about metrics and jingles I know I look like a 12 year old but I love it sounds well not the monkey something does. No it doesn't but it sucks some. The. It's kind of. Okay. If. She's the cutest thing now and in my bag of course I always have my computer possum books don't know forget to read him on this track particularly but I always try to keep some snacks some diapers and some other things that the kids will leave on the plane trip. In my. And. Yeah. In my class and my contacts her voice going to carry those with me.
